KIDS' TROUT FISHING DAY 2014

Early morning fishing at NVSRB
On Saturday, March 22, 2014, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), Reston Association (RA), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), and Northern Virginia Trout Unlimited (NVATU) will sponsor the fourth annual Reston Kids’ Trout Fishing Day.

Hundreds of rainbow trout will again be stocked in a section of Snakeden Branch, between Soapstone Drive and Lake Audobon (Map), that WSSI restored in the spring of 2009 as part of the Northern Virginia Stream Restoration Bank. Children ages 2 – 12 are invited to fish for free between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon, and participants will each have the chance to keep up to four fish. See the Location Map for information on where to park register and fish.

Proud anglers with their catch!
Volunteers from WSSI, RA, DGIF, and NVATU will be on hand to help with fishing, baiting hooks, and cleaning your catch. Additionally, there will be a limited number of fishing rods available for use (contact RA’s Ha Brock at 703-435-7986 or habrock@reston.org to reserve a rod), and bait will be provided. Please register by March 17 to help gauge the amount of supplies that will be needed.

This event offers a unique opportunity for local children to experience the outdoors in a way in which they may not normally have the chance. For additional information, please contact Scott Petrey or Mark Headly.
