POSITION FILLED: Survey Technician (Entry-Level)
Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is seeking an entry level survey technician (0 to 5 years of experience) to start immediately. A recent college graduate with a degree or course work in surveying, environmental sciences, forestry, wildlife management, or arboriculture is preferred. This position requires daily field work in all weather conditions - we're looking for a person who loves working outdoors! On-the-job training and a 4/5 year apprenticeship program will help you on your way to licensure. You will also be cross-trained in all of the environmental services provided by WSSI.

POSITION FILLED: Regulatory Specialist (Entry-Level)

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. has an opening for an entry-level Regulatory Specialist. This position serves as liaison between regulatory agencies and clients for permit procurement. Ideal candidate will have minimum qualifications B.A./B.S. in environmental planning, science or engineering; Basic knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to 401/404 Clean Water Act and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Act; Knowledge of AutoCAD®, local land development practices, NEPA, FEMA or FERC regulations is a plus. Superior oral and written communications skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines under limited supervision are a must. 

POSITION FILLED: Engineering - Civil/Environmental or Biological (Entry-Level)
Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is seeking entry-level civil/environmental engineer or biological engineer interested in wetlands, streams, and water resources to start in summer 2015. Projects include stream restoration, low impact development, wetlands mitigation design, and floodplain studies. Ideal candidate will have from 0 to 3 years of experience, EIT, and knowledge of AutoCAD®, AutoCAD Civil 3D®, SWMM, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, TR-55, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs. While an engineering background is preferred, candidates with a background in environmental science, landscape architecture, and/or hydrology and the technical ability to perform the aforementioned tasks will also be considered.  

POSITION FILLED: Environmental Scientist (Entry-Level)
Seeking entry-level environmental scientist familiar with performing wetland delineations; preparing federal and state Clean Water Act permit applications and other technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues. Strong knowledge of/experience in one or more of the following fields desired: plant identification (including trees/shrubs), soil profiling, benthic macroinvertebrate collection/identification; general natural history knowledge/interest required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable. BA/BS required, MS desirable.

POSITION FILLED: Senior Architectural Historian
Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), a Davey Company, is a seeking an experienced, highly motivated Senior Architectural Historian for permanent full-time employment. Candidates must hold an MA or MS degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation or a closely related field, have seven or more years of professional experience in the field and meet the Secretary of Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards for Architectural Historian as set forth in 36 CFR 61. Qualified candidates will have an advanced understanding of American architectural history, particularly of Mid-Atlantic regional architectural history, and the relevant federal and state regulatory processes, particularly Section 106 of the NHPA. Strong verbal and textual communication skills, advanced project management, marketing, and client management skills and the ability to interact successfully with team members, regulatory staff and clients are required. The Senior Architectural Historian will be responsible for the identification and evaluation of architectural resources (e.g. buildings, structures, objects, and districts) for eligibility listing in the NRHP; documenting said resources through research, survey, and analysis; and managing said resources in accordance with federal, state, and local cultural resource laws and regulations. He/she will also support Thunderbird Archeology staff in the completion of historic archival research and the preparation of historic contexts for archeological projects. The Senior Architectural Historian will identify potential clients and projects and successfully manage and complete all aspects of said projects with minimal supervision. He/she will have a leadership role in marketing and business development and in establishing the foundation of the Architectural History department within Thunderbird Archeology. Experience preparing technical and cost proposals is required. The Senior Architectural Historian will also be responsible for hiring, managing and training junior-level staff as needed. The position will be based in our Gainesville, Virginia office; however, occasional or frequent travel may be required. Per Diem and lodging will be provided on projects more than approximately 80 miles from Gainesville, Virginia.

POSITION FILLED: Environmental Compliance Technician - Seeking an entry level environmental compliance specialist to assist in performing Virginia Wetland Protection (VWP) monitoring and reporting; (VSMP) site inspections; Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) preparation; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands, erosion and sediment control and stormwater issues. Willingness to work both independently and as a part of a team required. Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable. Bachelor Degree in environmental studies, wildlife biology, forestry or related field required. Virginia Combined Administrator in Erosion and Sediment Control, Certified Erosion and Sediment Control (CISEC) and Maryland Department of the Environment Green Card a plus, but not required.

POSITION FILLED: Environmental Scientist - Seeking mid-level environmental scientist with at least 3 to 5 years of experience performing wetland delineations; preparing federal and state permit applications and other technical studies related to aquatic resources; conducting endangered and threatened species (ETS) surveys; assessing potential impacts to ETS; and coordinating with federal and state resource agencies with regard to wetlands and ETS issues.  Excellent field botany skills and general natural history knowledge/interest required.  Experience working with a diverse client base in both the public and private sectors highly desirable.  MS desirable with PWS (or WPIT) and PWD certification preferred. 

POSITION FILLED: Survey Technician - Seeking entry level survey technician to start immediately. Prefer a recent college graduate with a degree or course work in surveying, environmental sciences, wildlife management, or engineering. This position requires daily field work in all weather conditions. We're looking for a person who loves working outdoors. Survey training will be on-the job and you will be cross-trained in all of the environmental services provided by WSSI. The position is anticipated to be permanent, but a paid internship through Summer, 2012 will be considered.

POSITION FILLED: GIS Analyst - Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking a full time Geospatial Analyst. Primary duties include: Manage, model, and analyze spatial Environmental and Engineering data; including but not limited to spatial data entry, importing, exporting, editing, geo-referencing, and editing vector and raster datasets; Generate project maps to be used for environmental analysis, reports, and presentations in GIS and AutoCAD software; Maintain and create procedures for mapping software automation and database documentation; Develop and update CAD drawings from information provided by staff and clients; Assist staff with AutoCAD spatial data creation, and spatial reference systems conversions/scaling.

POSITION FILLED: Archeological Field Technicians - Thunderbird Archeology, a division of Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., has immediate openings for four archeological field technicians. The work will consist of Phase I and Phase II investigations within Loudoun County, Virginia and is expected to last approximately four months, possibly longer. The positions are temporary. A 40 hour or greater work week is anticipated but not guaranteed. The salary will be $12.00 per hour. Only individuals within commuting distance of Loudoun County will be considered, as no per diem or mileage will be paid. The applicants must have at least a B.A. in Anthropology, Archeology (preferably), or other related field and have prior archeological experience, possess a strong work ethic, and the desire to gain experience in different aspects of cultural resource management.

POSITION FILLED: Stream Restoration Specialists - Seeking all levels of scientists or engineers with formal education or experience in stream restoration design. Rosgen training is a plus. Must be proficient in AutoCad, Land Development Desktop, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, and TR-55.
